Product Description

Kobra SSD NSA-Approved Solid State Drive Disintegrator – Up to 40kg per Hour with HEPA Filtration

Why this solid-state disintegrator suits maximum-security data destruction

The Kobra SSD is an industrial high security disintegrator developed for the permanent destruction of solid-state drives, flash memory, circuit boards, memory cards and other semiconductor-based storage media. Its two-stage destruction system reduces compatible devices to sand-like particles, providing physical destruction similar to the highest E7, T7 and O7 classifications.

The Kobra SSD is NSA approved and meets the applicable NSA/CSS specification for solid-state disintegrators. Rated to process up to 40kg of compatible media per hour, it combines a powerful 5kW destruction system with active two-stage air filtration, a HEPA filter, electronically monitored operation and comprehensive physical access controls.

NSA-Approved Destruction of Solid-State Devices

The Kobra SSD has been approved by the NSA and meets the requirements of the applicable NSA/CSS specification for solid-state-device destruction.

  • NSA EPL listed for solid-state media destruction
  • Developed for highly sensitive semiconductor-based storage devices
  • Reduces compatible media to sand-like particles
  • Provides physical destruction similar to E7, T7 and O7
  • Suitable for government, military, intelligence and other maximum-security environments

Sand-Like Particles for Maximum Data Protection

The two-stage disintegration system pulverises compatible solid-state devices into a sand-like output, physically destroying the memory components on which information is stored.

  • Output comparable with electronic-media security level E7
  • Output comparable with magnetic-media security level T7
  • Output comparable with optical-media security level O7
  • Destroys semiconductor memory chips rather than merely damaging the device casing
  • Makes recovery of complete memory components exceptionally difficult

The precise output size and hourly capacity depend upon the security screen fitted to the machine.

Two-Stage Disintegration System

The Kobra SSD uses two successive destruction stages to break down robust devices before reducing their internal components to the required fine output.

  • First stage breaks down the inserted media
  • Second stage uses a large 180mm-diameter, 16-blade grinder
  • Electronic monitoring synchronises both destruction stages
  • Large 300 × 300mm output screen supports efficient material discharge
  • Interchangeable screen specification determines the final particle size and throughput

This staged process provides substantially more complete destruction than equipment that merely bends, pierces or cuts an electronic device into a small number of pieces.

Destroys SSDs, Memory Chips, Circuit Boards & Flash Media

The Kobra SSD is designed specifically for compatible solid-state devices and electronic components.

  • Solid-state drives
  • Enterprise solid-state drives
  • SIM cards
  • SD and other compatible memory cards
  • USB drives and flash-memory devices
  • Flash-memory IC chips
  • CPU chips containing internal ROM or flash memory
  • Printed circuit boards
  • Compatible mobile phones with batteries removed
  • Compatible tablets with batteries removed
  • CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs when mixed with other approved storage devices

Only devices that have been correctly prepared and that fit safely through the 240 × 25mm feed opening should be inserted.

Rated Capacity of Up to 40kg per Hour

The Kobra SSD provides the throughput required for centralised professional solid-state media destruction.

  • Rated capacity of up to 40kg per hour
  • Suitable for scheduled destruction of larger media inventories
  • Supports centralised IT asset-disposal procedures
  • Electronic monitoring maintains synchronised two-stage operation
  • Standard hour meter assists with maintenance planning and record keeping

Actual throughput varies according to the security screen, size and density of the devices, electrical supply and operating conditions.

1200W Active Two-Stage Air Filtration with HEPA Filter

Disintegrating circuit boards, semiconductor components and electronic devices can create fine airborne particles. The Kobra SSD therefore incorporates a powerful 1200W active internal filtration system.

  • Two active motorised filtration stages
  • First stage captures airborne particulate matter
  • Second stage incorporates complete motorised HEPA filtration
  • Continuously draws air from the feed port and other internal areas
  • Helps capture and contain fine material released during disintegration
  • Provides more active containment than a passive filter alone

The filtration system must be operated, inspected and maintained in accordance with Kobra's instructions. Appropriate handling procedures and personal protective equipment may still be required when servicing filters or emptying destroyed material.

Lockable Feed Hopper & Controlled Internal Access

Multiple physical and electronic safeguards help prevent unauthorised access to media while it passes through the destruction process.

  • Lockable feed-hopper cover secures material after loading
  • Safety brush covers the full 240 × 25mm feed opening
  • Lockable front access door protects the internal material path
  • Electronic monitoring supervises the feed hopper and access doors
  • Automatic shutdown if a monitored access point is opened

These controls help organisations maintain physical custody of sensitive devices from loading through to final collection of the disintegrated output.

Automatic Monitoring, Reverse & Emergency Stop

The Kobra SSD continuously monitors both destruction stages and its principal safety systems.

  • Electronic control maintains synchronous operation of both stages
  • Automatic reverse responds to an accidental jam
  • Bin-full monitoring provides an illuminated warning
  • Safety lockout monitors the waste-bin access door
  • Separate monitoring protects the filtration-system access door and feed hopper
  • Large front-mounted lockable emergency stop immediately halts operation
  • Illuminated display keeps the operator informed of machine status

Optional Log Management System Creates a Destruction Record

The Kobra SSD can be specified with the optional Kobra Log Management System, helping organisations record which individually identified devices have been destroyed.

  • Supplied with a barcode reader
  • Scans the serial-number barcode of each device
  • Automatically stores the scanned information on a connected computer
  • Records the date and time associated with destruction
  • Supports internal audit, asset-management and regulatory procedures

The Log Management System is optional and is not included as standard. Please contact us before ordering if this facility is required.

35-Litre Removable Waste Container

  • 35-litre waste capacity
  • Collects the sand-like output produced by the second destruction stage
  • Removable design supports controlled emptying
  • Bin-full monitoring alerts the operator
  • Heavy duty lockable double-wheel castors support movement and positioning
  • Internal access is protected by the lockable front door

Disintegrated electronic media can contain fine particles and potentially hazardous substances. The container should be emptied only by authorised personnel using appropriate protective equipment and controlled waste-handling procedures.

Important Device Preparation & Safety

The Kobra SSD is designed specifically for approved solid-state devices and electronic components. Shredding unsuitable materials can damage the machine.

  • Remove all batteries from mobile phones, tablets and other battery-powered devices
  • Never insert loose lithium-ion or other batteries
  • Remove external brackets, holders, handles, shields and connectors
  • Insert only compatible media that fits safely through the 240 × 25mm feed opening
  • Do not force complete devices through the opening if their dimensions or construction are unsuitable
  • Optical discs may be processed only when mixed with other approved storage devices
  • Do not use the machine for paper, hard disk drives or general waste
  • Follow the manufacturer's operating, maintenance and safety instructions at all times

The references to mobile phones and tablets apply only to correctly prepared compatible devices with their batteries and unsuitable external components removed.

Industrial Electrical Supply Required

The Kobra SSD requires a 380–415V / 50–60Hz industrial electrical supply. It cannot be operated from a standard UK 13A socket.
